Backups

You want your journal to survive a dead disk. Tented copies it to a folder every day, and you can restore any copy. Open Title bar → gear → Settings → Backups.

• Automatic backups: one copy a day, keeping the last 14 days plus one copy a month for a year. Each computer removes only its own copies, so older ones disappear by design. Tented also copies the journal before a new version upgrades it.

• Backup folder: “Tented’s app folder” by default. Change… picks another. Show in Finder (Show in Explorer on Windows) opens it. A folder in iCloud Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox keeps copies off this computer and lets another computer restore them.

Note

The schedule and retention are fixed, and each computer has one backup folder. Backups go to a folder on your computer; Tented does not upload them.

If a notice reads “The last backup failed: …”, the folder can’t be written, for example a cloud drive that is unavailable. Fix access or Change… the folder.
