Save, send or both

The Commit dialog’s split button has three actions. The caret (More commit actions) lists all three with a line on what each touches, and Tented remembers your last choice. Hover Send or Save & send to see which account the order goes to.

  • Save writes the journal entry only and sends nothing. Use it to record a trade placed elsewhere. It works when you are not connected to IB.
  • Send sends the order to IB and writes nothing to the journal. When the order fills completely, a Fill detected card offers to record it, with IB’s prices and commissions (Confirm a fill).
  • Save & send (the default) does both. The trade is in the journal at the prices on screen as soon as you click, and the order goes to IB. When it fills and you confirm the Fill detected card, the entry takes IB’s prices and commissions.

A toast then says “Order sent to IB”, or “Order is waiting in TWS” when Transmit was off (Transmit or park in TWS).

What the order carries:

  • The order has the option legs only. Modeled shares (or futures units on the underlying) are recorded in the journal by Save and Save & send, but no send includes them, and the limit price does not price them.
  • A send that fails because Tented has no live IB session writes nothing. If IB refuses an order after a Save & send, see IB refused my order.
  • One working order per trade at a time.
