What is Tented?
Tented is a desktop app for Mac and Windows. You find a strike, model the trade, see its risk, send the order to Interactive Brokers, follow it through every adjustment and review the results afterwards, all in one place. Quotes, positions and orders go through the API of the TWS or IB Gateway running on your computer; Tented keeps the journal.
The view switch. Hold the ⌘ key (Ctrl on Windows) to see each view's number.
- 1 Four views, ⌘1 to ⌘4
| View | Shortcut | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Trades | ⌘1 | Your trades. A list on the left, and for the selected trade a page with its risk graph, legs, scenarios and a drawer with Chain, Chart, Record and Desk tabs. Follow open trades, adjust and close them, and start a new one with New (⌘N). |
| Workspaces | ⌘2 | Tabbed workspaces, one symbol each, with an options chain, risk graph, trade builder, price chart and portfolio. Look around a market before you have a trade, or model an idea on the live chain. The right rail holds the Watchlist and Desk. |
| Briefing | ⌘3 | The economic calendar and the news feed, with Desk beside them. Use it before the open or before a Fed day. |
| Journal | ⌘4 | Every fill of every trade, and the Performance tab. Correct fills, import history and review how your closed trades did. |
Ctrl replaces ⌘ on Windows. Tented opens on Trades or Workspaces, whichever you used last, and reopens Desk over it if you quit while Desk was open.
Desk is not a fifth tab. It is the speech-bubble button beside the gear (⌘5) and opens over the whole window. It is also a tab in the trade drawer, in the Workspaces right rail and a column in Briefing. Desk reads your trades, the screen and the market, and models trades for you; it never places or changes an order. See What is Desk?.
To switch views, click one in the title bar or press ⌘1 to ⌘4.
If you know thinkorswim: the chain, the Analyze tab and the order ticket are separate windows there. In Tented the chain, the risk graph and the builder sit in one workspace, and a trade you commit lives on in Trades with its history. See Coming from thinkorswim.
