Alerts
An alert tells you when something on an open trade needs a look. Tented watches it in the background and shows a toast when it fires.
Add an alert
Section titled “Add an alert”Plan → Alerts → + add, choose a Condition, give it a value, click Add alert. Remove an alert with the × on its chip.
| Condition | Value |
|---|---|
| Position Δ beyond ± | The trade’s position delta, either side |
| Price crosses | A level, with below or above |
| P&L at or below −$ | A loss in dollars |
| P&L above $ | A profit in dollars |
| Short strike Δ above | Delta of the short leg |
| DTE reaches | Days to the nearest expiration the trade holds; fires at or below it |
| ATM IV above % / below % | At-the-money IV on the front expiration |
| At a time of day | HH:MM, New York time; fires once a day, at the first check at or after it |
Desk can propose one of these conditions for you to confirm; it cannot invent others.
Read an alert’s status
Section titled “Read an alert’s status”Each chip says whether Tented is watching it:
- Watching · live: the quotes it reads are seconds old.
- Watching · ~1 min: the quotes refresh about once a minute.
- Not watched followed by the reason: for example “IB is disconnected” (“thinkorswim is disconnected” under that provider), “waiting for quotes”, “the trade holds stock or futures beside its options”.
- Not watched yet: an alert you have not saved, or just saved.
- Silenced: the alert is saved switched off and is never watched. Tented has no button to switch one off.
DTE and time-of-day alerts read only the clock and need no quotes.
When an alert fires
Section titled “When an alert fires”A toast names the trade and the condition, for example “SPX Sep 23 put BWB: P&L at or below −$1,000”, with what Tented saw (“P&L now −$1,042”). An alert fires once per occurrence and re-arms when the condition stops being true, so one that fired and never again is working by design. The firing is stored in the journal, so an alert that still holds after you restart does not fire again. Saving the plan re-arms all of the trade’s alerts: one whose condition is still true fires again.
If an alert did not fire, see An alert did not fire.
