Frequently asked questions

Questions a trader asks before or just after installing Tented, answered in a few lines each, with a link to the page that has the detail. This page answers general questions; details live on the page each answer links to.

Nothing during the beta. Every feature is available, and no payment details are asked for. Some usage limits apply, such as Desk’s daily and monthly usage limits (the daily one resets at midnight New York time). Paid plans come after the beta, you get an email at least 30 days before any plan starts, and the beta never turns into an automatic charge.

Interactive Brokers, through TWS or IB Gateway running on your computer. On Windows, thinkorswim can also supply quotes; with it you copy an order out for thinkorswim instead of sending it from Tented. You can also keep a Manual account with no broker and record trades yourself. See Connecting to Interactive Brokers and Accounts.

No. An order reaches your broker only when you place it with Commit. Plan alerts and scenario conditions only notify you. Desk cannot place, change or cancel an order. You can also untick Transmit so an order waits in TWS until you transmit it there. See Placing orders.

Your journal is stored on your computer. By default a copy also syncs through Tented Cloud so your computers match. In Settings → Sync, choose Your computers only to stop that. Backups go to a folder on your computer, and Tented does not upload them. Desk and Feedback send what they need to Tented’s server and its AI providers. Usage data (views and features, never trades, symbols or amounts) can be switched off in Settings → About & updates. Tented does not receive your broker password. The privacy notice at tented.app/privacy has the details. See Sync.

Tented is a desktop app for Mac (macOS 12 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows (10 or 11, 64-bit). The Windows build is not code-signed yet, so Windows may show “Windows protected your PC” on the first install: choose More info → Run anyway. There is no mobile app. See Install.

Can I bring my trades from OptionNET Explorer or thinkorswim?

Section titled “Can I bring my trades from OptionNET Explorer or thinkorswim?”

Yes. From ONE, export Reports → Detail Report as CSV and import it in the setup wizard or in the Journal. From thinkorswim, paste fills into the Journal (Add → Paste from thinkorswim) or paste an order into a new trade. You review everything before it is written, and importing again skips trades already in the journal. See Coming from OptionNET Explorer and Importing trades.

Do I need an Interactive Brokers market data subscription?

Section titled “Do I need an Interactive Brokers market data subscription?”

For real-time quotes, yes. Without one Tented falls back to delayed data (about 15 minutes old) and shows “Delayed data” in the status bar. See Supported products.

Can I use Tented without connecting to Interactive Brokers?

Section titled “Can I use Tented without connecting to Interactive Brokers?”

Partly. You still need to sign in. The Journal, Performance, Briefing and Manual accounts work without a broker connection, and so do imports. Chains, quotes, the risk graph’s live figures, order entry and Desk’s market reads need a connection.

Yes. Create a Paper account in Settings → Accounts and connect to a paper TWS (port 7497) or paper IB Gateway (port 4002). See Accounts.

Desk is the assistant that reads your journal and quotes and models trades. It answers with AI models that run through Tented’s server, and its answers can be wrong or incomplete, so check the facts and the arithmetic before relying on them. It gives analysis, not investment advice. You cannot pick the model. See Desk.

Why do Tented’s numbers differ from my broker’s?

Section titled “Why do Tented’s numbers differ from my broker’s?”

By design, three choices differ: Trading time decays less overnight, Skew moves IV along the smile, and index options are priced on the level put-call parity implies. Choose Calendar and Sticky strike in Settings → Trading to compare. See How Tented prices options.

Partly. If Tented cannot reach the sign-in server it shows an “Offline session” chip and your work continues locally. Desk and Briefing need a confirmed sign-in, and quotes need your broker connection.

Click Feedback in the title bar and describe the problem. Tented support answers how-to questions, reads recent logs, and drafts a report. Nothing is filed until you click Send report, and you get a reference number. See Troubleshooting.

Is Tented affiliated with Interactive Brokers or Schwab?

Section titled “Is Tented affiliated with Interactive Brokers or Schwab?”

No. Tented is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Interactive Brokers or the provider of thinkorswim. Your use of their services stays under your agreements with them.

The app changes faster than any page. Send Feedback with what you see and Tented support will check.

Send Feedback and choose Feature request. Pages say so plainly where a feature does not exist yet.

Paid plans come after the beta. You get an email at least 30 days before any plan starts.
